Follow-up of Interleukin 6 and Other Blood Markers during the Hospitalization of COVID-19 Patients: A Single-Center Study

COVID-19 is a recent respiratory illness with high morbidity and mortality; therefore, the study characterization of blood markers associated improvement or deterioration patients are crucial. This compared levels interleukin 6 (IL-6), procalcitonin (PCT), D-dimer, cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), c-reactive protein (CRP), 25-OH vitamin D, anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies, viremia in mild–moderate severe–critical patients. In addition, time course was studied cases. The results show that IL-6, PCT, CRP, cortisol/DHEA-S ratio, as well positive anti-Spike IgGs were higher requiring hospitalization. During follow-up, most cases displayed similar patterns IL-6 viral load, whereas antibody curves showed an inverse pattern. A decrease patients, mostly through reduced oxygen requirement. preliminary suggests increase serum D-dimer CRP ratio could support selection poorer prognosis need for intensive alternative treatment.
